King Abdul Aziz Port at Dammam

The King Abdul Aziz Port at Dammam ranks second to Jeddah as a commercial port. It is located on the Gulf and is the gateway for both the eastern and central regions. Like Jeddah it boasts a fully equipped repair yard. In 1984, King Fahd opened the King Fahd Ship Repair Complex, with an area of 161,460 square yards [135,000 sq m] and two docks for ship repair and maintenance. The Port also has an advanced center for training Saudi staff in repairing ships. It has a tower 310 feet [95 m] high as well as special stations for handling bulk cereals, containers and cold or frozen foods. In 2000/2001, the King Abdul Aziz Port handled 13,740,338 tons of cargo.
