Primary and secondary education is largely the responsibility of the Ministry of Education which caters for male pupils and the General Presidency for Girls’ Education. (Although there is a private educational sector, the vast majority of children are educated through the State system.) The Government has as its goal the provision of a high standard of primary and secondary education for all boys and girls, since it is an essential component of the Kingdom’s policy to ensure that the entire population should be literate and numerate.
