In 1975, the poultry industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was unable to meet even 10% of local demand; by 1985 the Kingdom had exceeded self-sufficiency in egg production and was exporting to neighboring countries. In 1999 the volume of egg production was 139,000 tons. As for the production of poultry for eating, the Kingdom is now more than self-sufficient.
