The Madinah-based King Fahd Complex for Printing the Holy Quran has printed more than 145 million copies of the Holy Quran, and related publications, in 70 editions since its establishment in 1405AH until mid-1420AH.
It has an annual production capacity of 10 million copies, in different forms and sizes, in only one shift. If three shifts are operated, the Complex has the capacity to print 30 million copies.
The Complex has translated the Meanings of the Holy Quran into different languages, such as Pashto, Barahwai, Albanian, Indonesian, Urdu, Bengali, Bosnian, Turkish, Tamil, Somali, Chinese, French, Kazakh, English, Spanish, Persian, Korean, Greek, Thai, and several others.
Al-Tafseer Al-Muyasar (the simple explanation of the Quran) is considered the newest and most important project. It is under the supervision of Islamic scholars from different Islamic centres and committees to ensure its accuracy. There are nearly 1,800 people (70 Saudis) who work at the Complex, including scholars, university professors, technicians and administrators.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance supervises the Complex, which includes a number of centres and committees to serve Islam in general, and the Holy Quran in particular. These bodies include the Scientific Committee for Holy Quran Revision, the Centre for Serving the Prophet Sira (sayings and deeds), the Islamic Research Centre and the Translation Centre.
In line with the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, the Complex distributes many copies of the Holy Quran to pilgrims each year during the Hajj season at the Holy Sites, as a gift from the Saudi monarch.
