Manama, 23rd May 2001

At the end of their tenth meeting held here today, ministers in charge of Cultural Affairs of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries approved the system for administering a King Fahd Award for Creativity in the GCC countries. The award will be given annually to distinguished GCC citizens who make remarkable contributions.

Prince Nawaf bin Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy President of Youth Welfare, headed the Kingdom's delegation to the meeting. In a press statement at the end of today's meeting, Prince Nawaf bin Faisal recalled that the award, carrying the name of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, was an initiative previously introduced by the late Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz in 1998.

He added that the Award would serve the people of the GCC in various areas of creativity. At the end of the meeting, the Ministers also reached a number of other decisions and recommendations in the field of culture.
