King Fahd orders extending aid to Somalia
Riyadh, 14 January 2001

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz has issued orders to the Saudi Red Crescent Society to extend urgent relief aid to Somalia. Chairman of the Saudi Red Crescent Society Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Suwailem told the Saudi Press Agency that this noble gesture by King Fahd had come within the framework of his noble deeds towards Muslims throughout the world. He noted that floods had swept a number of villages and towns in southern Somalia and caused the displacement of thousands of people.

Dr. Al-Suwailem explained that the aid comprises of two planes loaded with foodstuffs, medical materials, tents and blankets. He noted that the first plane, carrying more than 100 tons of relief assistance, will leave Riyadh for Somalia on Monday, while the second plane will leave on Wednesday.
