King Fahd donates SR 1 million to Ethiopia
Dammam, 31st May 2000

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz has donated one million Saudi Riyals to the Committee of African Muslims, affiliated to the Kuwait-based 'Direct Aid' Society, to provide relief to famine-stricken people in Ethiopia, it was reported here today.

The director general of the Committee's office in Dammam Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Khamees said that the donation is part of the continuing benevolent efforts of the Government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, his Crown Prince and Second Deputy Premier, to alleviate the sufferings ensuing from natural catastrophes and disasters.

He highlighted the previous donations of King Fahd to help, through the Committee's office, drought, famine and floods victims in Somalia two years ago.

He said the Committee has set up a number of relief centres in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia to alleviate the suffering of Muslim victims of natural disasters.

Nearly 16 million people have been affected by the current famine in the African Horn.
