London, 18th August, 1999
A number of prominent Islamic dignitaries praised the convening of King Fahd Cultural Forum in Brussels, Belgium scheduled for the 16th of Jamadi under the auspices of the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance. Chief of the al-Tawheed Mosque and School Endowment in London, Dr. Huhaib Hassan Abdul-Ghaffar, said the topics to be discussed at the forum (which included the concept of education in Islam, mosque, family and school; obstacles facing Islamic education in Western society; the media and its impact on education) were of great concern to Muslims. He said it augurs well that some scholars and religious leaders and teachers could gather for this occasion to discuss matters of vital interest to Muslims all over the world. For his part, the Chairman of King Fahd Islamic Studies Chair at the University of London, Professor Mohammed Abdul Haleem, said the conference was very important to Muslims because of its relevance to the education of the new generations of Muslims residing in the Western world. He said the issue of Islamic education in the west was a crucial problem facing Muslims in Europe. He said the issues that are to be discussed merit a frank and plain debate. He said Muslims in the West needed meetings and conferences like the one in Brussels to discuss the serious problems facing their children studying in the West. He praised the role played by the Government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz in terms of education and Islamic studies services in Britain, referring to the support of King Fahd for the Islamic Studies Center of the University of London, as well as the establishment of King Fahd Chair for Islamic Studies at the same university. He also cited the establishment of King Fahd Academy in west London as the Muslims' greatest achievement in Britain. Source: SPA |
