01/06/1998 King Fahd calls on India and Pakistan to show restraint
1st June, 1998

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz chaired a meeting of the Saudi Council of Ministers on Monday 1 June, 1998.

The Saudi leader noted that the recent nuclear tests conducted by India and Pakistan would be of no benefit to South Asia. He went on to say that Saudi Arabia calls on both countries to exercise self-restraint and commented on the double standards of the world community in exempting Israel from international inspection of its nuclear facilities.

Saudi Arabia urges a comprehensive ban on the proliferation of nuclear weapons and demands that the Middle East be a nuclear-free zone.
