King Fahd calls for Islamic unity
8th December, 1997

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, chaired a meeting of the Saudi Council of Ministers in Riyadh.

The Saudi leader urged the governments and leaders of the Islamic Nation to unify their ranks.

King Fahd expressed appreciation to the Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamid bin Khalifa Al Thani, for the spirit of brotherhood, demonstrated in Riyadh last week, that led to the full restoration of cordial relations between the two Arab countries.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries' decision to raise oil production to 27.5 million barrels a day was commended by King Fahd. He expressed the concern of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as a key resource of world energy, that equilibrium should be realized in international oil markets.

King Fahd highlighted Saudi Arabia's great attention to the needs of Islam and all Muslims in a speech addressed to the Muslim World League, and delivered by Prince Majid, the governor of Makkah, on Sunday, 7th December, 1997.

King Fahd noted that the first Islamic Conference was convened in the Holy City of Makkah in 1926, at the invitation of King Abdul Aziz, founder of the Kingdom.
