It is also the case that the influx of foreigners, so necessary for the building of the Kingdom’s infrastructure and the development of its industrial and agricultural base, brought with it some social strains. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a strictly Muslim country. The millions of expatriate workers arriving in Saudi Arabia came from many different countries with diverse cultural backgrounds. The expatriates faced the problems of adjusting to Saudi society and there were those in the Kingdom who feared that Saudi society itself could be diluted by the influence of alien cultures. These fears proved groundless.
