Expansion of Cultivated Land

The cultivation areas in the Kingdom have doubled over the last two decades. In 1975, cultivated land in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was no more than 150,000 acres [60,700 hectares]. The figures for 1998 show that there are now more than 12 million acres [4,885,000 hectares] under cultivation and a further 13 million acres [5.3 million hectares] that could be prepared for cultivation.
