UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has appointed Dr Thouraya Obaid, from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to a key post at one of the UN's agencies.

"Thouraya Obaid is a prominent figure, fully conversant with the UN and its activities in the field of population and organization of family affairs. Dr Thouraya's role in the field of women's rights and her efforts to improve the health status of women are undeniable," Kofi Annan noted.
