![]() ![]() ![]() General Presidency for Youth Welfare: Role in Sports (1 of 3)
The General Presidency for Youth Welfare (GPYW) has been responsible for the fast development of sport within the Kingdom. The GPYW provides all sorts of sports facilities, such as sports centers, youth camps, sports halls, public playgrounds and club buildings with required equipment. In 1975 there were 53 sports clubs. This figure rose to 154 in 1999, with a membership of more than 160,000. In 1999 there were 22 sports federations committees. GPYW has 13 main and 9 branch youth offices in the Kingdom. It has established two permanent youth camps at Taif and Hail. Each camp comprises indoor sports halls, a theater, a restaurant, six 20-person capacity buildings, sixty scouts’ tents, parks and various facilities.
