The network of air transportation comprises 25 airports in the Kingdom, including 14 local, 8 regional and 3 international airports.
In 1981, King Khalid opened the King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah. This airport, which has special facilities for handling the annual influx of pilgrims performing Hajj, has a land area of 40 square miles [105 sq km].
